Parks and Greenway Committee

When: No May meeting scheduled
Where:

Chair: Jeanne Galick

One of the greatest assets of the CTLH neighborhood is its location next to the Willamette River. Nearly 4 miles of river bank and Greenway lie within our boundaries. and we are one of the only neighborhoods in Portland to have access to the river.

The Greenway and Parks committee works actively through political advocacy, public outreach and physical labor to fulfill the following goals:
        1) keep the Willamette Greenway and River open and accessible to the public
        2) complete the Willamette Greenway
        3) ensure the Greenway is wide enough to accommodate today's-and future-generations of users
        4) restore and enhance healthy wildlife habitat along the river through additional native species
            plantings,clean-ups, and other programs
        5) advocate for additional parks and open space in our neighborhood and along the river
        6) monitor parks and open space
        7) work with other organizations to further environment work on the river and our parks

Committee members have been responsible for securing and building the Willamette Butterfly Park (south of Miles Place along the Greenway) and the Corbett Oak Heritage Tree Park (on SW Corbett & Lane). We continue to work hard toward getting a 100-200 fott greenway setback in North Macadam.

Members include: Jeanne E Galick, Phil Hamilton, Jerry Ward, John Perry, Jan Kelly, Kevin Myles, Jeff Lang, Ken Love and is open for anyone who would like to be a part of this effort.

We meet sporadically-usually every third month unless we are activly involved in hearings (like North Macadam). Currently we meet at the Willamette Athletic Club at 5:30. Dates are published in the SWNI newsletter. I am open to changing the dates/times/place if it would be more convenient for people.
